Purcell Society/British Library Study Day

Music in Purcell's London: 'Only Purcell e're could equal Blow'

The British Library Conference Centre
96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB

Saturday 4 October 2008, 10am-5pm

Join us to explore the music of Henry Purcell and his contemporaries, in a study day marking three anniversaries: the birth of Henry Purcell, in 1658 or 1659, and the deaths of John Blow and Giovanni Battista Draghi in 1708. The day will feature presentations on all three composers, and live music.

Keynote speaker: Professor Sir Curtis Price, KBE

Other speakers include Rebecca Herissone, Christopher Hogwood, Peter Holman, Andrew Pinnock, Robert Thompson, Bryan White and Bruce Wood, and subjects range from Purcell's keyboard music and anthems to John Blow's role in the history of English opera.

Titles and abstracts of the presentations (PDF file, 30 KB)

Tickets: £12 (£10 concessions) are now available from the British Library and may be purchased online (please follow the link to October's events). You can also buy tickets in person at the Information Desk in the British Library. Click here for directions and Library opening times.
